The Links Portmarnock, Ireland

Designed in association with Bernhard Langer, the golf course lies on 150 acres of coastal duneland adjacent to the Irish Sea and close to Portmarnock Golf Club, North of Dublin.

The 6850 yard, Par 71 course has been designed and constructed following the best traditions of links golf and the rolling fairways, revetted bunkers and gently undulating greens combine with natures elements to create a truly exciting golf experience.

By definition a true links can be described as a sandy site with low sand dunes, small the winds of ‘mother nature’.

The Portmarnock strand embodies precisely these natural green hollows and long valleys. Any links course is also at the mercy of the sea and endowed characteristics and extends to the golfer a true test of links golf.

The Par 71 course measures 6700 yards and was opened in July 1994 to great critical acclaim. John Hopkins, Golf Correspondent of the Times, writes:
“The Links Portmarnock, has reminded me of the merits andintricacies of an art that is not seen much these days, namely, the teasing short Par 4, several holes are less than 390 yards in length yet have to be played with a combination of skill and forethought.”

The newest jewel in golf on the Emerald Isle is The Links Portmarnock.

A group of leading golf writers from the United Kingdom unanimously agreed that The Links offered a superb test and would be a great attraction to all golfers visiting the Dublin area. Many celebrities have visited the course since its opening, including three times Formula One World Champion driver Jackie Stewart who commented as follows,

The Links Portmarnock is tremendously challenging and full of character, I thoroughly enjoyed the experience, it was one of the best courses’ I have ever played”

The investors in the project include IMG and Dr. Tony O’Reilly, one of Ireland’s most prominent businessmen.
